Midweek Chicago Folk Service
In the summer many people travel on the weekends and we
don’t see our church friends as often on a Sunday morning. A midweek
church service may fill the need to worship together. On two Wednesday
evening August 6, we’ll gather as a community for supper
and worship. We’re used to doing this in Advent and Lent, when we use
Holden Evening Prayer as our more meditative liturgy. For these summer
worship services, instead, we’ll use the Chicago Folk Service, a liturgy
written in the 1970s when pianos and guitars were starting to be played
in church. Some adults out there will want to put on your bell-bottoms
and your big hair, and relive your days in youth and/or campus ministry.
But wait, there’s more! The youth of the congregation will be our
worship and music leaders, serving as accompanists, cantors, and lectors.
Come see how they are living out their call to be part of our worshipping
community.
Mark your calendars: Wednesday, August 6, for supper
at 6:30 followed by worship at 7:15. Watch for announcements to
sign up for supper. And pull the retro clothes out of the closet.
Note to youth: if you haven’t yet responded to say how you’re participating,
contact Beth Frasso.
